Hey, mama!

Last year, I attempted to keep up with Ann Voskamp’s “Joy Dare.” Unfortunately, I quit about 3 months in.

I didn’t quit because I didn’t have things in my life I was grateful for. It was quite the opposite in fact. I have so many things to be grateful for that I was just overwhelmed and didn’t prioritize keeping up with it. So here I am giving it a go this year, only this time, I’m doing things differently.

This time, I have a pretty little gratitude journal that I bought from “Happy Dappy Bits” on Etsy. It’s cute which motivates me to use it, and this is its only purpose. Nothing else is written in this notebook. I also have an action trigger that reminds me to write in my notebook which is helping me make this into a habit that sticks!

My blogger friend, Jan, from the blog, The Nerdy Farm Wife, recently sent me a copy of her new book – 101 Easy Homemade Products for your Skin, Health & Home. I’ve had such a good time looking over this book. It’s inspiring, it covers a lot of different areas of life where you can use natural handcrafted products, and the recipes are simple and practical.

I have my eye on making a few of these products in the near future, including her Chamomile “Almost Castile” Soap and Vanilla Rose Bath Melts, two things I’ve never made or tried. Oh! And the photos in this book are beautiful! They make you want to make all the recipes!

If you’re interested in this book you’ll have to wait a little longer. It’s available for presale now, but the actual books won’t start shipping until March. If you’d like to preorder it, or at least, get a sneak peek of the inside, you can do both right here on Amazon.

Isaiah. My sweet Isaiah. He just turned 6 this month! I can’t believe it.

He was my biggest baby, and he’s growing way to fast. He’s funny, smart, and a hard worker. He likes to take his time and do things right, and he wants to be a chef when he grows up!

I was inspired to make some rose syrup this past month when I was studying how to use roses medicinally, and I think it’s going to become a favorite remedy around here.

I use it when I feel stressed or a little sad. It’s thought that roses open the heart and balance the emotions so I think it’s a great fit for those situations. I also like to mix this with heart tonic herbs like hawthorn as rose is great for the heart as well, and it does a great job sweetening up herbal teas!

Favorite Holiday

Valentine’s Day is at the top of my “favorite holidays” list. It’s not about the gifts and the sweet treats (although I love sweet treats). It’s about making those I’m closest to feel really loved and special. This Valentine’s Day was a busy one as we had church in the morning, our usual Sunday lunch at Mom-mom’s & Pop-pop’s with all the cousins, and then the man and I were off for our Valentine’s Day date!

We bought a new dining room table (Happy Valentine’s Day to us) and had a special dinner at Cafe Lola in Johnson City. It snowed like crazy, but we made it back to our guys and then home safely.

I hope you had a special Valentine’s Day too!

So that’s it for this past month!

I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my favorite things, and I’m looking forward to hearing what some of your favorite things were in February in the comment section below!
