Registered nurse turned herbalist, Appalachian mountain dweller, homeschooling boy mama, and wife to my best friend.

the face behind GROWING UP HERBAL

I'm MEAGAN, and i'm glad you're here

As a Registered Nurse working night shift in my small town Emergency Room and pregnant with my first baby, I quickly realized that I didn't want to experience any of the common pregnancy complaints and complications that I had learned about in nursing school.

HOW THIS JOURNEY BEGAN

get to know MEAGAN better

So, I started researching natural pregnancy information online and came across a forum filled with mamas talking about all things natural living. I dove head first into real

food, decreasing toxins, using herbs, homebirths, attachment parenting — all of it!

I learned how to nourish myself and my baby, and while I didn't end up having the birth I planned for, I had zero complications and the best hospital birth a person could ask for.

Fast forward to life with a newborn and the main thing on my mind is, "How do I feed him whole foods and help him develop a wide palette," and "What do I do when he get's sick because I definitely don't want to use over-the-counter baby medicines?"

So back to the forum I went. I read more books. I devoured more websites. I began ordering herbs, making basic herbal preparations, and stocking my natural medicine cabinet, and making a lot of homemade baby food (not to mention opening an Etsy shop and selling the botanical skincare products I was making and using).

Duplicate this 3 more times, and now you'll find four boys who've been raised in a home where herbs are the primary source of health care, trips to the doctor are reserved for emergencies only (and can be counted on one hand for all four kids), and they have zero health concerns.

Love and light,
Meagan

This story doesn't have to be mine alone — it can be yours as well, and I'll show you how to make it happen.

I've always dreamed of being an author, and this year, I was blessed to be able to sign a book deal with Cider Mill Press and Harper Collins Focus to write my first herbal book, which will hit shelves in 2024.

a dream realized

2023

The opportunity suddenly came my way to begin work for Herbal Academy as their blog coordinator. This eventually lead to being promoted to Marketing Assistant and Project Manager and finally moved into Course Development. Working with the HA team is a dream job!

A NEW CAREER

2016

My blog was taking off and opened the door for me to work for Bulk Herb Store as their blog editor. They offered to pay for me to go to any herbal school of my choice, and I chose Herbal Academy's Intermediate Herbal Course to help me take my herbal education to the next level.

everything changed

2013

I opened an Etsy shop where I sold the botanical skincare products I was making and using on my little guy. I started the blog a year later to help market my little shop, and I begin learning more about herbalism through self-study.
