One of the major selling points when we initially considered buying this land and moving up here on the mountain was the driveway… for me at least. I know that a long, gravel driveway up a mountain would be a big turn off to some, but to me, it was perfect. I’ve always loved the driveway a couple from our church has. It too is up a mountain, and it’s so peaceful and beautiful as you slowly travel up it. Not only do you notice the plants growing around you, but you can feel the air get cooler the higher...Read More

It’s been a while since I’ve written a post sharing the work we’ve been doing around our home. If you’ve been reading Growing Up Herbal long, you’ll know we bought a piece of property a few years back with a pretty outdated house that needed a good bit of work. We loved the land and the seclusion, and we saw the possibilities this place had. Thankfully, it was the perfect price, and we went for it. We spent the first year getting the inside of the house the way we wanted it before we moved in, and we’ve spent...Read More
Oh my word, it’s been way too long since I’ve done an updated post on our house adventure. Thankfully we’re almost done and ready to move in. In fact, we’re moving in the weekend after Thanksgiving which is like… in a week. I’m a bit stressed about moving and all, but thankfully we have a BIG family that is willing to help! Okay, so if you missed the first two posts in this house adventure of ours, you can find the first one here and the second one here. Since my last post on the house we’ve had some...Read More
In my last House To Home post – Beginning Stages – I told you about how my husband and I finally found the prefect house for our family. The only catch was that we had to fix it up first. Well, here’s the second installment in our progress. If you’ve ever remodeled a home before, you know exactly how all of this goes. S.L.O.W.L.Y. … unless you’re my brother-in-law who’s a contractor and whips beautiful things together in a snap. Fortunately for him, but unfortunately for us… we couldn’t borrow him for the summer because he’s a busy guy!...Read More
Welcome to the new Visser abode… well sort of. At the end of last year, my man and I bought our very first house… a definite fixer-uper, but that’s so us. Today I want to tell you about it. Waiting On Perfection My husband and I have always known we’d move out of the house we’re living in now, and into something bigger. We wanted more room for our family to grow and more land to do the things we wanted to do with it. We wanted to create our own little haven somewhere. So for the past 5...Read More
One of the best things I’ve done to make my home feel more comfortable and inviting has been to incorporate fresh indoor plants into my home decor. Fresh plants not only help to make your home have a more homey feel to it, but they also work to purify and clean the air from various chemicals, such as VOCs, car exhaust, pollen and mold, and more, making your home’s air healthier for you to breathe. Today, I’d like to share a list of air-purifying houseplants that are great for indoors. Most of these air-purifying houseplants are easy to grow,...Read More
So it’s official! We’ve sold our home, and we are now homeless in a sense. We close on our new house on October 2nd, so until then, we are essentially homeless. It feels a bit strange not to own a home! Thankfully, though, once we do own our home, we don’t have to live there while we remodel it because a friend is letting us housesit for her during the month of October while she’s away in Spain. She, like us, lives up on a mountain which should make the transition from our mountain home to her mountain home...Read More
No “Instaworthy” home photos here today. Nope. Today you get the real deal—the bare walls, dirty floors, and cluttered room look because this is what real life looks like for us right now. We have packed half of the house so far. If you look at some rooms, it looks like we’re making a dent in things, but in other rooms, it feels like we have such a long way to go with very little time to get it all done. I definitely have moments of overwhelm with it all—last night being one of them. So what did I...Read More
