The Start Of A Budding Spring

The Start Of A Budding Spring | Growing Up Herbal | Spring is here! I’m sharing some photos of plants blooming on the mountain and how living changes from season to season.

Oh, friends! Spring is such an exciting time of the year! The birds have migrated back North and are chirping away every morning. The insects are buzzing around all day long. The plants are popping their heads out of the soil. Whether you’re an herbalist or not, Spring is an exciting time of the year! I can already feel the pull of beautiful weather, enticing me outside to do nothing but merely enjoy the woodlands that surround me.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the plants around my house for weeks now, trying to pay attention to which ones unfurl at what time. So far, we have plenty of dandelion, comfrey, yarrow, ivy, yellow dock, violets, and burdock, with more useful plants emerging every day.

Plants aside, there have been periods of warm weather where the sun is shining and the air is warm. This has allowed us to do fternoon school work outside and soak up some vitamin D. I love it! Spring feels me with excitement and anticipation for what’s to come. Does it do that to you, too?

Looking back on past seasons…

Last summer was a time for us to slow down after a busy school year. While there was plenty of work to do around the house and plenty of work to do online. With school out of the way, our days were more relaxed and slower paced. I read a lot of books , and the boys were able to play outside all day or play video games whenever they wanted (which is something that’s off-limits during the school year). We also anticipated the excitement of our big summer vacation (photos and daily recaps are on Instagram).

Fall had us getting back into the school scene (which always has me a bit excited and a bit stressed) and planning for upcoming holidays. While we stayed busy and were looking forward to get-togethers with friends and family, there was also a sense of contentment and peace in the air — a sense of family and homeliness that seems to come from the Fall season.

Winter came and brought some much-needed rest and reflection into our lives (into my life at least!). We had plenty of warm fires, beautiful snows to enjoy, and healthy meals to sustain us through the long, cold days of winter. It was a time for reflecting on the past year, deciding what to continue in the coming year and what to do away with.

And here we are at another Spring, ready to put our plans into action. As I was telling my Letters To Natural Mamas subscribers this past week — Spring is a time for taking all the plans we made in Winter and moving forward with them. It’s a time to put our hands in the soil, feel the sun on our faces, and start moving upward and outward. Happy Spring, friends, and I hope you will join me in making the most of this season!

Thanks for stopping by,
Meagan
