Let’s Have Some Fun: The "20 Things You Might Not Know About Me" Blog Tag

20 Things You Might Not Know About Me | Growing Up Herbal | Today, I'm sharing 20 fun facts about myself that you may not already know. Let's get to know each other better, shall we?

Today I’m changing things up a bit and doing something a tad out of the ordinary. I’m getting a bit more personal than I normally do.

A reader recently told me they’d like to see more personal posts so they can get to know me better… posts about my daily life. So here’s the start of something a bit new. We’ll see how it goes and how you like it!

Today’s post is a blog tag, and it’s all about the 20 things you might not know about me. Below I’ll be answering 20 questions that will give you a small glimpse into my life then I’ll be tagging some other bloggers to answer these same questions on their blog.

You see, when you’re a blogger that networks with other bloggers, you make friends fast. The only downside is that these friends are all online, busy running their own amazing sites, and you don’t really get a ton of time to chit-chat beyond business talk. Hopefully, this blog tag will help open the online lines of communication a bit!

THIS BLOG TAG TOPIC: 20 Things You Might Not Know About Me

Here are the questions and my answers for this tag.

Question 1: How tall are you?

I’m a short 5’2, almost 1 foot shorter than my man which makes the top of my head the perfect chin rest. 😉

Question 2: Do you have a hidden talent? If so, what?

I’m not sure about talent, but something I do that not many people know about is that I play piano and am one of the lead singers in our church praise band. I started this during my “butterfly” phase I talk about below. I love it, and even though it means earlier Sunday mornings with 4 littles, it’s totally worth it! Plus my man plays the drums and I love that we get to worship together in this way.

Question 3: What’s your biggest blog-related pet peeve?

As I’ve learned more about blogging I’ve learned all the things you’re “supposed” to do to have a blog that looks great, but I’ve also learned that many blog rules can be broken. However, there’s one rule thing that I instantly notice when I come to a blog that makes me think the blogger is either a newbie blogger or could care less about this particular rule. So what is it? Photos that aren’t sized to fit the text space.

Unfortunately, I still have some posts where my photos don’t fit the text space due to the fact that I’ve changed my blog theme and bigger photos are required. Bummer!

Question 4: What’s your biggest non-blog related pet peeve?

Oh yes! It’s TOTALLY irritating to me when younger girls call me “sweetie,” “honey,” “sugar,” or any of those obnoxious words that are supposed to be reserved for elderly ladies and gents only. Waitresses and sales clerks are the worst! What happened to saying “ma’am” or “sir”? This definitely brings out my southern “redneck woman” instincts. Thankfully I always suppress it.

Question 5: What’s your favorite song?

Oh, my word! I honestly don’t know if I have a favorite song. I like so many… so many artists… so many genres. That’s a tough one.

Question 6: What’s your favorite Etsy shop that isn’t yours?

Illuminated Perfume for sure! Oh, my word… her photos catch my eye, her products are totally natural and herbal, and the smells! Oh, the smells! To die for. Seriously.

Roxana is a botanical perfumer with years of experience, and I just love wearing her scents. My SIL got me some of her perfumes and a locket from her shop one year for Christmas, and I’ve been hooked every since. My man even likes them, and that’s saying something because he’s always preferred chemical perfumes over natural scents. Thankfully he’s coming around!

If I had to recommend one of her products, I’d recommend this starter pack!

Question 7: What’s your favorite way to spend your free time when you’re alone?

Shopping! Let’s face it. When your man isn’t into browsing stores, trying on clothes, and spending money on style and you have four little kids that require every second of your time and every working brain cell, shopping by yourself is a special treat… one that my man is very willing to give me!

Question 8: What’s your favorite junk food?

Oooohhh… I like sweets so it would definitely fall into this category. It’s really hard to say no to cupcakes… and Oreos. It’s really hard to say no to lots of things, but those two (especially when coupled with a big glass of cold raw milk) are hard to say no to. Perhaps the raw milk cancels out some of their junk? No? Oh well, it was worth a shot.

Question 9: Do you have a pet or pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?

We have one dog that we got our boys for Easter named Rosie. She’s a mix that they picked out from the animal shelter, and she’s very energetic and sweet. She’s around 3 years old now.

We also have two cats that we got for the boys for Easter as well from a guy giving away free kitties in Boone, NC. They’re brother and sister and are almost 1-year-old. Their names are Theo and Cleo (Theodore and Cleopatra), and they are the sweetest kitties! I’ve never seen a more docile cat than Theo. He puts up with a lot from the boys. Cleo, not so much. She will only put up with so much before she’s done with them and needs a break. She’s kinda like me! LOL!

Update… Theo turned out to be a Thea when she delivered 6 healthy baby kittens in the boy’s room on a rainy Saturday evening in May. Note to future self: Don’t assume your vet is 100% positive when it comes to sexing cats just because he’s a veterinarian. He’s human and that’s a difficult thing to do when they’re really little.

Question 10: What are your number one favorite nonfiction and fiction books?

Well, the Bible is definitely my favorite nonfiction book, but what good Christian wouldn’t say that. Apart from it, I don’t know that I have a favorite. I’m also terrible for reading more than one book at a time. For example, I’m in the middle of Sally Clarkson’s The Mission of Motherhood and Sarah Mae’s Desperate right now… as well as 2-3 more! If I had to pick one that I’m really loving right now it would be French Women Don’t Get Fat by Mireille Guiliano. In fact, anything about the French is really catching my eye these days.

When it comes to fiction books, I like books that are series. In the past, I’ve read series like Harry Potter, Twilight, The Hunger Games… things like that. I don’t have time to read much so when I do, I need things that keep my interest. I’d love to read The Outlander Series because I’ve heard great things about it, but I really don’t know too much about it. I’d also really like to start reading The Classics. It’s on my bucket list!

Unfortunately, I don’t do much reading these days. I’m busy, and I just don’t make time for it. Plus, as I’m getting older, I’m becoming more selective about what I read. I don’t really wanna fill my head with certain things so it’s been years since I’ve really sat down to read anything all the way through.

Question 11: What’s your favorite beauty product?

Well, it’s a three-way tie between my sugar scrub, my cleansing grains, and my body lotion. I use at least one of them every day, they’re all homemade, and they work so well!

Question 12: When were you last embarrassed? What happened?

I recently meant to post a Facebook update to a blogging group I was in, but instead posted it to my personal profile on accident. No big deal except I worded things a bit strongly (not in a terribly bad way though) knowing my blogging buddies would understand my situation. I realized my mistake about 10 minutes later when I saw my update in my news feed! I immediately deleted it, hoping it would disappear forever and that no one saw it. Unfortunately, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law (and later another friend) all asked me about it! I just knew every one of my “friends” had seen it!

Question 13: If you could only drink one beverage (besides water) for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Raw milk! I love it!

Question 14: What’s your favorite movie?

Man! What’s with these “favorite” questions? I don’t have favorites! I honestly have no clue… I like lots of different movies, however, like books, I’m beginning to become more selective about what I watch.

Question 15: What were you in high school: prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, valedictorian, band geek, loner, artist, prep?

Oh goodness… I was a total cheerleader for most of my public school days. I hung in the popular crowd, dated the jock guys, got all fancy for homecoming court every year, and basically followed the crowd.

It wasn’t until the end of high school that one of the worst (yet best) things happened to me, at least in my mind. It was then that I started to break out of my “cocoon” and started doing things because I liked them not because my friends liked them. I met my now husband again, I became a REAL Christian, I traded some old friends for new friends and began to really grow into my own. Don’t get me wrong, I had a great time in school… I have great memories, and I love this small town I still live in! I just realized that there’s more to living than being “one way” or being “that type” of person.

Question 16: If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?

Right here… honestly. It’s what I know. I’m familiar with it. Plus I feel safe here, and if worse came to worse, my family would be okay in these mountains. I’m a born and raised country girl, and that’s something I’m sticking with! I would like to travel more, though… here in the US and in other countries.

Question 17: PC or Mac?

Mac.

Question 18: Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, boy/girlfriend, spouse?

Sweet texts from my man and sporadic date nights!

Question 19: Favorite celebrity?

The Duggars and the Duck Dynasty family! I love that they’re not afraid to stand up for what they believe in despite all the criticism they get. Isn’t that what all their critics want as well… to be heard and accepted no matter what they believe?

Question 20: What blogger do you secretly want to be best friends with?

Kathleen Shannon from AndKathleen.com! I’ve known her for a while through her business BraidCreative.com, and I think she’s so cool. She seems down to earth, creative, and inquisitive, and she’s rocking the dreads that I’d totally do if I weren’t such a scaredy-cat. She and I have a lot in common and at the same time, we both have a lot that we could teach the other. She and her sister, Tara, are amazing at branding and online business, and since she’s a new natural mama, I would have a lot of wisdom to share with her in that area.

This was a treat to read.. I do feel like I know you better.. I feel like I’ve seen you grow up. From the early days of creating bibs to now having a great blog and big family! You are actually very similar to a close friend of mine, who also sang + played piano at her family church (her dad was the pastor) and she has 4 girls. Life is funny.

    • Meagan says:

I know! We have known each other for a good while online! Yes, life is definitely a journey. It’s so fun to see where we go. I’m always trying new things, and I try to not be afraid to change everything I’m doing around to try something else new and exciting! I still have a bunch of those bibs in my craft boxes! I need to do something with them. LOL!
